My heart has a hole...

I had to make the decision to put my Blue Boy to sleep on Thursday, 4.24.08. I don't quite know how to feel, or how to...not feel.

He was shivering when I got to the vet's office. They had been giving him a constant IV drip to hydrate him for a dental procedure when they discovered that the problem wasn't dental, but a tumor in his jaw. Anyway, the IV fluids were making him shiver.

I pulled him close and he curled up in my arms and promptly went to sleep, slowly warming, and the shivers subsiding. At his throat, the fluttering signal of his purr could be felt at a touch.

An hour later, it was time. And so he went to sleep swiftly, peacefully, and permanently, in my arms, warm, full, and content.

He was with me, literally, for half my life, and I am torn now. I feel like any minute I will get a call to tell me I can go pick him up. But, I know that I won't ever see him again. He's gone.

But the sting of my eyes, the constant lump in my throat, the streaks of dried tears, the unbearable ache in my heart where he used to live...it is all worth it. I would never trade a minute I had with him to spare myself the grief.

He was my long time friend and companion and I will miss him very much. Very, very much.

My first fanfiction ever. An Inuyasha fanfiction centered around the romance of Sesshoumaru and an older Rin. It is (hopefully) full of romance, mystery, angst, inner turmoil, betrayal, and more.

Summary
Rin is a young woman now, and though she could not ask for a better life, she is discovering a deeper longing for her Demon Lord master, and is fighting her feelings of her own human inadequacy. Sesshoumaru has a territory to rule over and a very old promise to fulfill, but his own traitorous feelings for Rin are threatening to get in the way of his duty to his lands and his demon pride and honor.
